The exhibition Arrimage 2012 is the product of an educational project that ran throughout the school year and involved more than 700 elementary and secondary schoolchildren. Over the past few months, these student artists explored different aspects of this year’s theme, Textures. First, a visit to the Montréal Science Centre gave them a chance to examine the chemical and physical properties that affect the textures of materials. Then, on a visit to the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, they observed how artists transform material to produce a wide variety of surface effects. Finally, under the guidance of their art teachers, they worked this theme into a collective creation.
This year, twenty-two schools from four school boards took part in Arrimage. The project is organized by the Art and Education Department of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal under the program A Montréal School for All established by Québec’s Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport. The artworks will also be on display from July 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 at the Montréal Science Centre, the Musée’s partner in this project.
