Join us for the screening of Kanehsatake : 270 ans de résistance on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the MAC at Place Ville Marie, with interpretation in Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ).
Filmed within the barricades, this documentary by Abenaki filmmaker and activist Alanis Obomsawin provides a valuable Indigenous perspective on the conflict often referred to as the Oka Crisis or the Kanehsatake Resistance. It is her most renowned film. In July 1990, a dispute over a golf course to be built on Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) land in Oka led to a historic confrontation that made international headlines.
Following the screening, art mediator and consultant Hodan Youssouf will be present to discuss Alanis Obomsawin’s work as part of the exhibition featured at the Museum.
