SéminArts is an educational program that offers an introduction to collecting contemporary art. Over five weeks, participants will have the opportunity to actively engage in conversations with various key contributors from the Montreal art scene including artists, curators and gallery owners. Each will offer an intimate look at what it means to be a collector today.

Open to anyone curious to learn more about collecting and the world of contemporary art. Reserve early, places limited.

Program

  • Format: 5 sessions (in French) in person. On Tuesdays October 15, 22, 29 and November 5 and 12, 2024, from 6 – 8 p.m.
  • Sessions will take place in a different location each week, such as an artist’s studio, a gallery or an artist-run center, near downtown Montreal. The program will be revealed at a later date.

October 15: Meet MAC curator Mark Lanctôt. Discussion about the museum and the acquisition of works by emerging artists. This will be followed by a visit to the opening of the artch festival, which is dedicated to promoting emerging contemporary artists.

October 22: Visit of the exhibition Eddy Firmin: Lawond, with the curator Tamar Tembeck.

October 29: Visit of the Champion Iron corporate collection with consultant Alexandra Briand-Soucy, and meeting with an art collector. 

November 5: Early access visit to the Lorraine Simms exhibition with Soad Carrier, director of McBride Contemporain.

November 12: Visit Shanie Tomassini’s studio at Fonderie Darling.
