Atom Egoyan
Born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1960
Atom Egoyan is a highly prolific filmmaker who has also worked in theatre, opera, television, and since 1996, contemporary art. His work deals with how memory is constructed, and examines the impact of technology and the media on contemporary life. Memory plays a central role in the conception of his work. The characters and images he portrays shift from past to present, pulling viewers through a meticulously constructed time-space. While his works are characterized by the experience of cultural dislocation, they also resonate on a profoundly universal level.
