Catherine Widgery
Born in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), United States, in 1953
In her poetic sculptures, Catherine Widgery explores the deep but fragile ties that bind human beings to their environment. Initially drawn to metal work, she began using organic materials in 1980s. Since then, her practice has centred mainly on producing works of public art that are on display across Canada and the United States. Her works engage with viewers through their use of intriguing, ambiguous and often mysterious forms and imagery, eliciting a renewed perception of the site and the present moment.
