Isaac Julien

Born in London (England), United Kingdom, in 1960

Co-founder and member of the Sankofa Film and Video Collective from 1983 to 1992, Isaac Julien is among the most influential British filmmakers of his generation. He gained prominence during the 1980s for his provocative films and documentaries that explored controversial themes around race and homosexuality. Among other subjects, his work questions the role of memory in constructing the myth of identity through the fate of the black diaspora.
