Michel Boulanger has been active on the Québec contemporary art scene since the 1990s. Initially interested in the rules of pictorial representation and by the complex nature of perception, he gradually developed complicated but fascinating compositions that are both realistic and imaginative. Known primarily for his phantasmagorical images populated by mythical animals and people, Boulanger began developing 3D animations in 2003, creating narrative films that reflect the constant thematic thread between his work and the act of storytelling within his overall practice. In 2008, he co-founded Grupmuv, with Gisèle Trudel and Thomas Corriveau, a research and creation lab dedicated to drawing and the moving image.
