Paterson Ewen’s work is traversed by a profound attachment to matter, to the raw and organic characteristics that define it, and to the phenomena that transform it. The particularity of structural space rests above all on a persistent, reductionist organizational scheme that channels the expressive potential of his highly textured surfaces.

Sans titre, 1963, Oil on canvas.
