Pierre Heyvaert
Lebbeke, Belgium, 1934 - Montreal (Québec), Canada, 1974
Pierre Heyvaert’s brief career had a dual impact on the sculpture scene in Québec. Born in Belgium, Heyvaert settled in Canada in 1957. He became directly involved in Montréal’s artistic scene in 1964 as an active member of the Association des sculpteurs du Québec, where he held the positions of secretary and president. Between 1963 and 1973, the evolution of his work clearly illustrated the trajectory of Québécois sculpture characterized by a progressive transition from a concern with the inherent qualities of a material, to a practice dominated by the relationship between strictly geometric forms.
