Rita Letendre is a key figure in Canadian painting, for whom abstraction is a way to create new ways of seeing the world. She is widely known for her vibrant compositions, which often feature broad, diagonal lines that energize the surface and give an impression of speed. This motif has often been described as an arrow which the artist associates with movement and even space exploration. Over the decades, Letendre has developed a unique visual vocabulary with which she investigates the structured, rational approach to painting.
