- Artwork description
- Considered one of the Serge Cournoyer’s foundational works, La Nourrice humorously reformulates the great cyclical processes of the natural world through mechanical means. A small potted plant receives enough light from an overhead lamp to produce photosynthesis, while a system that condensates ambient humidity provides the necessary water for its survival. Neither praising nor denouncing the notion of progress, the piece playfully evokes the often-close relationship between artistic creation and the world of inventions.
