Artwork description
Le Cheval, by Xavier Veilhan, is a life-size sculpture composed of multifaceted, black lacquered metal arranged in fragmented, almost cubist shapes. To create his horse sculptures, Veilhan swaps his usual 3D scanner—which requires his subjects to pose completely still for 45 minutes—for an asymmetrical, imperfect plaster model which he then scans, enlarges, and reduces down to its most minimal, bevelled form. Despite its multiple digital transformations, the sculpture still manages to convey the animal’s “life” and dynamism.
