Artwork description
In this suite of 26 charcoal drawings produced during the last year of his life, Albert Dumouchel poignantly interprets his movements along the Richelieu river, one of the many areas that were part of his personal geography and to which he was deeply attached. Dubbed “the father of Quebec printmaking,” Dumouchel’s concise, quick, and spirited graphic line captures the fundamental relationship between the individual and the landscape. The result provides a more intimate glimpse of his work and highlights elementary and primordial aspects of a creative expression that can only truly be captured by the immediacy of drawing.
