- Artwork description
- At first glance, Nicolas Baier’s monumental piece Petits riens resembles a large abstract painting. Hundreds of familiar domestic objects, each photographed and digitally manipulated, float across the surface to create the impression of an all-over painting. Tangled in a tight network, the objects can be read as purely abstract coloured shapes. Through a process of digital collage and montage, Baier subverts reality by blurring the boundary between painting and the photographic image.
