Artwork description
Richard Serra’s minimalist, monumental sculptures maintain a close relationship with their physical environment. Positioned in a corner of the room where two walls meet, Two Plate Prop consists of two steel plates that seemingly precariously balance on each other, in a masterful defiance of the laws of gravity. Part of a series from 1968 titled Prop, this work explores the raw qualities of the material and the possibilities of abstract sculpture, while proposing new ways of perceiving space.
