Supporting the MAC
“It’s no accident that museums are always in the centres of our cities. This speaks to their value and importance, their pivotal role in helping to shape discourse and the public conversation. Each city, each society expresses itself through its visual art, and I’m thinking big for my city of Montréal, and for the MAC.”
— John Zeppetelli, Director and Chief Curator
Today’s art is alive at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, an essential part of Montréal and Québec life, located in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles. For more than fifty years, this vibrant museum has brought together local and international artists, their works and an ever growing and increasingly aware public.
It is a place of innovation and discovery, offering visitors experiences that are continually stimulating and new, often unexpected and always striking. Despite the Musée’s many popular and critical successes in recent years, it has also had to deal with major budget cuts.
To uphold its mission of promoting contemporary art and artists, education and collecting, the Musée must diversify its funding sources. More than ever, the MAC and its Foundation need the public’s support. Help sustain a vital Musée d’art contemporain, one that contributes to the cultural and artistic enrichment of our society. Allow the Musée to move forward with renewed vision, to innovate and grow.

Gifts of Artworks
The Collection of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal comprises more than 7,600 works, illustrating the major trends in Québec, Canadian and international art. It has grown, and continues to grow, through both gifts (40% of acquisitions) and purchases (60% of acquisitions). To remain a key player in the contemporary art world, the museum must be a major buyer on the Québec and world scenes. Building the Collection is one of its main priorities.
To do this, the museum relies on donors’ generosity. Their knowledge and taste play a part in enriching the Collection. The museum applies the same strict standards to accepting gifts as it does when it purchases works.
At the Musée, Marie-Eve Beaupré is in charge of donations. She can answer your questions about the museum’s acquisition procedures or about the tax benefits accruing from gifts and bequests of artworks.
In recent years, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal has formed business partnerships with major Québec and Canadian corporations interested in the development of the cultural sector. Partnering with the museum affords many advantages and provides a platform that can be adapted to your particular needs, bringing both prestige and public appeal. In addition to outstanding, direct visibility, the museum offers you the opportunity to work with it in creating promotional, marketing and public relations events.
Sponsors enjoy many benefits: visibility on giant banners on the Musée façade; inclusion in print advertisements in daily newspapers and weekly cultural publications, and in exhibition catalogues and the Musée Magazine; printing of their logo on invitations to openings; acknowledgment in the promotional brochure for the museum’s program; and much more.
