Behind the Scenes of Contemporary Art for Ages 18 to 30

Three gatherings, three opportunities to get an inside look at Montreal’s contemporary art scene. On November 12, 19 and 25, the MAC invites 18 to 30 year olds to discover Montreal’s art ecosystem in three uniquely different spaces: an exhibition at the Biosphère, an artist collective’s studio and an independent apartment gallery.

Meet the curators, artists and gallerists who bring Montreal’s contemporary art scene to life. Ask questions and connect with your peers. No prior knowledge of contemporary art is required!

Hosted by Didier Morelli, this three-part series makes up the first Circuits program. Book individual gatherings or join us for the full Circuit.

Thursday, November 12 – Tour of the Exhibition A World in Common at the Biosphère

Join curators Julie Bélisle and Josianne Poirier, alongside artist Kimberly Orjuela, to explore how contemporary art and environmental issues intersect, opening up new ways of imagining how we inhabit our world.

Thursday, November 19 – Visit and Creative Workshop at Studio Rat

Step inside the studio of Studio Rat, the Montreal-based collective founded by Emily Allan and Dom Di Libero that explores the sculptural and playful potential of reclaimed plastics. After the visit, try your hand at reusing material in a creative workshop.

Wednesday, November 25 – Visit and Discussion at Carmine’s Room Apartment Gallery

Discover Carmine’s Room, an independent apartment gallery that offers an intimate setting for contemporary art. Joined by Ally Rosilio, curator, researcher and arts worker, explore the role these types of spaces play in bringing artists, artworks and audiences together.

Didier Morelli is a curator, performance and art historian, cultural critic, and visual artist. A Scholar in Residence in Art History at Concordia University and previously associate editor at Espace art actuel, he has published in numerous art and performance magazines, journals and other publications. In 2026, Morelli curated Briser la glace / Splitting Ice, the Manif d’art – Quebec City Biennial. He also curated Street Actions: Women Performing on the Streets at Centre d’art contemporain Optica.

No. Each gathering can be booked separately for $5. You can also book the full circuit of three gatherings for $15.

The Biosphère is in Parc Jean-Drapeau, a few minutes’ walk from Jean-Drapeau metro station (Yellow Line).

Yes. A second series featuring new locations and people from Montreal’s art scene, is planned for spring 2027.

Yes. Circuits takes over from SéminArts, the MAC’s introductory program on collecting contemporary art, which ran for 15 years.
