The MAC is proud to partner with CIÉCO Research and Inquiry Group to host curator Isabelle Bertolotti. This lecture on exhibition curation is one of several initiatives and reflections led by the museum’s curatorial team in preparation for the reopening of the MAC at its Sainte-Catherine Street location, following its major transformation project.

Isabelle Bertolotti’s lecture will be presented in the Grande Bibliothèque Auditorium at BAnQ, on Monday March 23, at 6 p.m.

The Musée d’art contemporain and the Lyon Biennale: From Local Ecosystem to International Collaborations

The Lyon Biennale is committed to exploring the historical, geographical, and social dimensions of its local ecosystem by inviting artists from around the world to work closely with the region’s enterprises, expertise, and resources, while also integrating their own knowledge, experience, and personal history. Collaborations result in site-specific, often large-scale works, which frequently become part of macLYON’s collection, creating an exceptional collection of landmark works. This distinctive strategy helps give young artists visibility, foster connections with international partners, and launch cross-border projects over the long term.

Isabelle Bertolotti

“An art historian trained at the Université de Lyon 2 and the École du Louvre, Isabelle Bertolotti has been the artistic director of the Lyon Biennale since 2019 and the director of macLYON since 2018, following her tenure as head of the exhibitions department at macLYON, which she had led since 1995. She was the co-founder and artistic co-director of Rendez-vous, jeune création internationale, an event dedicated to the emerging French and international art scene, from 2002 until its recent merger with the Lyon Biennale. In addition, she organized iterations of the event outside Europe: Shanghai in 2008 and 2010, Cape Town in 2012, Singapore in 2015, Beijing in 2017, and Havana in 2018.

Bertolotti is also an independent curator specializing in the emerging international art scene. She is a member of the International Biennial Association (IBA), which brings together directors of biennials from around the world to reflect on new practices of these large-scale events.”
