The MAC is proud to partner with Nigra Iuventa to host N’Goné Fall, a Senegalese curator and leading expert in cultural engineering. This lecture on exhibition curation will conclude the Black Atlantic Network Symposium and is one of several initiatives and reflections led by the museum’s curatorial team in preparation for the reopening of the MAC at its Sainte-Catherine Street location, following its major transformation project.

N’Goné Fall’s lecture will be presented on Saturday, November 22, at 4:30 p.m. at the Canadian Centre for Architecture.

A Singular Journey: From Architecture to Contemporary Art

In this lecture, N’Goné Fall will offer an overview of her professional journey, which has led her to successively explore the fields of architecture, publishing, and exhibition curating. She will also share her reflections on curatorial practice, drawing on one of her landmark projects: When Things Fall Apart: Critical Voices on the Radars, presented at the Trapholt Museum in Kolding (Denmark) in 2016. Inspired by Chinua Achebe’s novel Things Fall Apart (translated into more than fifty languages, including Danish), the exhibition resonated both with the local context and with broader international upheavals of the time, notably the Brexit referendum and the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. Throughout her talk, N’Goné Fall will rely on rich visual documentation from When Things Fall Apart to highlight some of its most emblematic aspects—particularly the ways in which scenography and public programs help deepen the visitor’s experience. She will also discuss how her intimate knowledge of architecture has shaped and enriched her understanding of the curator’s role and responsibilities.
