As part of the Journées de la culture, the MAC is offering free activities built around the exhibition In Praise of the Missing Image, co-presented by the MAC and MOMENTA as part of the 19th edition of the Biennale.

During your visit, you will discover the work of 7 artists who explore contemporary issues around images along with the dynamics that shape their narratives. The works will explore the presence of foreign monuments in cities, international soccer rivalries, racism and climate crisis. Through the observing of the works your group will be encouraged to discuss and reflect on forgotten or marginalized stories.

The first activity is connected to the mural from the series Eau de rivière (2020) by Niap, an artist from Nunavik, which explores themes related to her home territory and Inuit culture. Stimulated by her work, you will create expressive images in an art workshop that bring together drawing and watercolours, evoking transparent landscapes. This activity takes place on September 27. You can join either in the morning, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., or in the afternoon, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to all family members aged 6 and up. Adult supervision is required. All materials are provided.

The following day, Sunday, September 28, the MAC at Place Ville Marie will also host Fragments of a City in Motion, a workshop organized by MOMENTA as part of its 19th Biennale d’art contemporain, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This activity is connected to the artwork of the artist Maureen Gruben. Walking in public areas, you will be led to attend to details that generally pass unnoticed: textures, sounds, lights, odours, ambiences. Each participant will collect these elements in the form of traces (notes, sketches, recordings, rubbings, etc.) and use them to compose a sensitive and personal mapping of the territory explored. Take a moment to be playful and creative: pique your curiosity, develop a spirit of collaboration, and create as a family! Open to all ages 6 and up.
