Perspectives on Contemporary Art – Installations and Videos is an introduction to contemporary art based on works from the MAC’s collection and its research platform, MACrépertoire.
How did the emergence of new artistic forms in the 1960s help redefine contemporary art? This program explores permanent installations and video works, introducing students to key concepts for understanding contemporary art. These include the status of art objects, the relationship between art and space, viewer participation, issues of self-representation and identity, feminism, the archive, and the fluid boundaries between artistic disciplines.
Through interactive activities, participants will develop their observation and analytical skills and discuss the questions raised by the works presented. They will also learn the basic skills needed to conduct independent research in the MACrépertoire.
