Since the early 2000s, Valérie Kolakis has developed a highly conceptual practice that explores identity and the relationship of the individual to the modern built environment, while also questioning the biographical nature of art. Her succinct, elegant sculptures and installations, built from poor materials and found objects, gravitate around themes of construction and deconstruction, presence and absence.
