The 2024 edition of the Bal du MAC promises to be a memorable evening in a venue synonymous with innovation.
On Saturday, September 14, 2024, nearly 800 personalities from the art and business communities will gather at the brand new ROYALMOUNT to celebrate contemporary art in support of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC). This year’s Bal du MAC, which marks the 60th anniversary of the MAC, will be held under the theme Fantasmagorie, an epic journey into the mysteries of inspiration. In the refined world of the new ROYALMOUNT, where imagination meets elegance, guests will celebrate 60 years of inspiration and the future of the MAC together.
The Fondation du MAC benefits from the support of the evening’s Honorary Co-chairs: Stephen Bronfman, Co-president of the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation, who is also Co-chair of the major capital campaign for the Fondation du MAC, along with Claudine Blondin; Julie Couture, President of the Fondation du MAC’s Board of Directors; and Laurent Ferreira, President and CEO of the National Bank. The Bal du MAC committee is chaired by Marie-Josée Simard, Board Member of the Fondation du MAC. The evening will be produced by LaBoum, with artistic direction by Anita Bombita. Cossette created the event’s visual identity, ensuring an immersive and visually stunning experience.
“Contemporary art is part of our cultural heritage. The National Bank has been collecting contemporary art for a long time. We have 7,000 works in our collection, two-thirds of which are by Quebec artists. The business community’s involvement is crucial as it demonstrates a collective recognition of art in our society. It is important to invest in institutions like the MAC, which will enrich the cultural ecosystem of our city and strengthen our social fabric,” said Laurent Ferreira, President and CEO of the National Bank and Co-chair of the Bal du MAC.
Stephen Bronfman, Philanthropist and Honorary Co-chair, expressed his enthusiasm for participating in this milestone event: “Celebrating the MAC’s 60th anniversary is a unique opportunity to celebrate our cultural heritage and support an institution that has evolved and adapted over the decades. I am also turning 60 in 2024, so I have witnessed the MAC’s different phases of transformation and growth over the years. Being involved in the Bal du MAC this year is my way of paying tribute to this continuous evolution and contributing to the future of contemporary art in Montreal.”
“By supporting contemporary art, we contribute to cultural vitality, encourage innovation and diversity, and actively participate in our time’s societal and cultural dialogue. The business community’s involvement in fundraising events not only brings financial and logistical resources but also enhances the MAC’s visibility during its transformation,” said Julie Couture, President of the Fondation du MAC’s Board of Directors and Honorary Co-chair of the Bal du MAC.
Several public figures, including politicians, will walk the red carpet and join Quebec’s philanthropists and business leaders to celebrate contemporary art and support the Fondation du MAC’s mission. Several prominent artists will be present to mark the museum’s 60th anniversary, contributing to the event’s theme. Additionally, an artwork created for the occasion will be unveiled on-site.
The Fondation du MAC relies on the support of several exceptional partners who significantly contribute to the evening’s success, including the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation, the National Bank, and the event’s host partner, ROYALMOUNT. Each year, the Bal du MAC, one of the most sought-after galas of the season, enables the Fondation du MAC to provide the Museum with funds to support its various educational activities, enrich and preserve its collection of over 8,000 works, promote Quebec artists, and present some of the most prestigious international artists of the moment in Montreal.
About the Fondation du MAC
The mission of the Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain is to support the Musée in its various activities, including collection development, exhibition production, promotion, and educational programs. Its mandate is to solicit funds from companies and individuals interested in disseminating and conserving contemporary Quebecois, Canadian, and international art. The Fondation du MAC thus contributes to the development of the collection of Canada’s first major institution devoted entirely to contemporary art: the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.
About the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal
For 60 years, the MAC has been bringing together local and international artists, their works and diverse audiences, celebrating art as an essential component of life in Montréal and Québec. With the Museum’s head office in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles undergoing a major architectural transformation, the MAC has temporarily relocated its activities to Place Ville Marie, another of the city’s landmarks. For the duration of the work, the museum will engage with the public through temporary exhibitions highlighting exceptional artists and showcasing a variety of practices. In addition to two main exhibitions a year, the MAC at Place Ville Marie offers public programs and a wide range of educational services and community outreach activities.
