Montréal, August 25, 2011The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal is proud to be a leading participant in the festivities surrounding the launch of the new cultural season in the Quartier des spectacles. It will mark its presence in the heart of the Quartier by unveiling a surprising, major work produced in connection with a highly anticipated event this fall: The Québec Triennial 2011. The Work Ahead of Us. The work in question, whose creator will be identified at the press conference scheduled for Thursday, October 6, will be unveiled in front of the public and the media on place des Festivals at 10 p.m. Accordingly, the MAC invites all Montrealers and lovers of contemporary and public art to gather on the square in order to have a front-row view of the new work as it is revealed. The names of all the artists taking part in The Québec Triennial 2011 are under embargo until October 6 at 10 a.m.

This public artwork, which will join the Musée’s Collection, is the product of a collaborative undertaking by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Quartier des spectacles. It will be on public display from October 7 to November 6, 2011.

The Québec Triennial 2011. The Work Ahead of Us

The Québec Triennial 2011 is one of the most important and eagerly awaited art events in Montréal, Québec and Canada. For this second edition of the Triennial, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal has put together an event on an unprecedented scale that will fill all of the museum’s exhibition galleries and indoor public spaces, and spill over into the Quartier des spectacles and the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme at Place des Arts. The exhibition will showcase works by some fifty artists — a majority of them young — who are contributing to a renewed Québec art. A series of live performances and Friday Nocturnes will round out this edition of the Triennial.
