Montréal, September 9, 2014 — This coming October 11 at 7:30 p.m., the Musée d’art contemporain is presenting the North American premiere of superposition, a performance by Japanese electronic-music composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda at Théâtre Maisonneuve, Place des Arts, in collaboration with the Festival du nouveau cinéma. Following its Montréal presentation, superposition will travel to the Metropolitan Museum, New York, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, University Musical Society, Ann Arbor, and UCLA, Los Angeles.
Offering a unique sensory experience combining sound, visuals, physical phenomena, mathematical concepts, human behaviour and randomness, superposition has been widely acclaimed internationally. As Marie Lechner writes in Libération, superposition is “a blend of sound performance and live show, a total experience, both physical and mental.” MAC director John Zeppetelli adds that he is “proud that the Musée d’art contemporain and Montréal are the starting point for this prestigious North American tour.”
On stage, two performers interpret a score for unconventional instruments that generates a series of video images retranscribed in real time onto a set of 21 screens assembled with the utmost precision. All the scenic elements — sound, light, video — are orchestrated in a unique, powerful audiovisual performance.
Tickets are on sale now at the Place des Arts box office. Prices are $24, $28 and $32 CAD (service charge included; taxes not included); a 25 % discount is offered to MACarte holders. For information and reservations contact 514 842-2112 or visit the Place des Arts website.
