Montréal, February 7, 2012 — On Saturday, February 25, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal will offer an exciting and varied program, including a Petite Nuit blanche for early birds and a range of activities for night owls.
This year, as Montréal en lumière pays tribute to Wallonia-Brussels, the MAC joins in with performances by the highly engaging Qw4rtz vocal quartet, with its a cappella renditions of familiar tunes by Jacques Brel, along with pop, classical, jazz, barbershop and new music.
Festival goers can also enjoy the MAC’s newly opened solo exhibitions featuring works by three major women artists: Ghada Amer, a Cairo-born multidisciplinary artist known mainly for her paintings, to which she adds embroidery and “drippings” of coloured thread that blur our reading of the works, which often have a sexual subtext; Valérie Blass, one of the most captivating artists to have emerged in Québec in the last decade, who employs virtually every sculptural technique to explore the terrain between animal, human and inanimate forms; and Wangechi Mutu, an artist originally from Kenya, whose drawings and collages, as well as her sculptures, assemblages and videos, reflect her very original thinking on the state of the world and conjure up the play of relationships between living organisms, humans and the power of nature.
La Petite Nuit blanche
Because the Nuit also belongs to early birds, the MAC is offering families, and everyone else, a Petite Nuit blanche starting at 6 p.m. On the program: visits to the exhibitions, with educators on hand in the galleries, art workshops from 6 to 9 p.m., performances by Qw4rtz from 9:30 p.m. on (free), and tastings of hot chocolate and other treats. The art workshop (age four and up) titled Bric-à-Blass invites participants to draw inspiration from the works of Valérie Blass as they create extraordinary images, with odd, hybrid forms, out of all kinds of materials. Throughout the Nuit
To keep the night owls happy, Nuit blanche will run until 3 in the morning. Activities scheduled: visits to the exhibitions, with educators on hand in the galleries, performances by the Qw4rtz quartet, tastings of Belgian beers and illumination of the Musée building all night long, in partnership with the Quartier des Spectacles.
