Cosmonauts, dandies and brown bears, anthropomorphic trees and femme fatales, all in a style close to the kind of illustration found in the 1950s. His recent work focuses on narratives in which strange anecdotes yield to stories drawn from real life, in which nightmarish anxiety, violence and sex meet in an almost playful atmosphere. This amply illustrated publication documents the largest exhibition to date of Dzama’s work and provides a critical overview of the most recent developments in his art practice including dioramas, sculptures, assemblages, paintings, videos, collages and drawings. Born in Winnipeg in 1974, Dzama lives and works in Brooklyn. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Europe.
