In the spirit of a museum’s art acquisition committee, the twelfth Collectors Symposium, generously sponsored by National Bank Private Wealth 1859, was held at the museum on Tuesday, October 23.

Chaired by Eva Hartling and Sara Joli-Coeur, this fundraising event for the Musée Foundation brought together over sixty guests who were invited to take part in selecting the next works to enrich the Musée Collection.

After the presentation of Adam Basanta’s artwork by curator Marie-Ève Beaupré and Caroline Monnet’s by Leslie Johnstone, Mark Lanctôt presented the photography of Trevor Paglen.

In this edition, the public chose Trevor Paglen’s INTRUDER 5A in Cygnus (Ocean Reconnaissance Satellite; USA 160) Note: Other satellites are SCOUT X-4 Rocket Body and Unknown, part of his series entitled The Other Night Sky.

About the Collectors Symposium

The Collectors Symposium, presented by National Bank Private Banking 1859, was established to give participants an opportunity to share in the experience of sitting on an art acquisition committee. Much appreciated by art lovers and collectors, this unique evening also gives those who are less familiar with contemporary art a chance to discover the important role these works play within a museum’s collection.

In the last twelve years, the Symposium, which is closely aligned with the mission of both the Foundation and the museum, has allowed major works to integrate the MAC’s collection. The proceeds generated, notably thanks to the generous participation of National Bank, have enabled the museum to acquire pieces by Etienne Zack, Dil Hildebrand, Valérie Blass, Ed Pien, Adrian Paci, Pierre Dorion, Michel de Broin, Nicolas Baier, Hito Steyerl, Jessica Eaton and Skawennati, among others.
