The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) is proud to launch two new initiatives aimed at making the Museum even more inclusive and accessible to all. As of April 1, 2025, admission to the MAC exhibitions at Place Ville Marie is free for youth under 20 and offered on a pay-what-you-want basis every Thursday evening.
Free admission for those under 20
Following changes to the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCCQ)’s approach to free admission on the first Sunday of each month, the MAC is expanding its free youth admission program. Youth under 20 can now enjoy free access to the museum at any time, every day of the week. This initiative demonstrates the museum’s strong commitment to fostering cultural engagement and artistic discovery among younger generations, while strengthening its connection with this dynamic and inquisitive audience.
Les jeudis du MAC: Pay What You Want
As part of its ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and offer greater flexibility to the public, the MAC is introducing “Les jeudis du MAC”, a voluntary contribution program for admission. Starting at 5 p.m. every Thursday, visitors can explore the museum’s exhibitions by paying what they wish, based on their means and preferences. This approach reflects the MAC’s commitment to making contemporary art accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.
“The MAC is constantly looking for new ways to democratize access to art and culture, particularly for families and younger generations. With these measures, we hope to welcome even more visitors and facilitate new and exciting encounters with contemporary art.”
− Stéphan La Roche, Director of the MAC
About the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC)
For 60 years, the MAC has brought together Quebec and international artists, their works, and diverse audiences, celebrating art as an essential component of life in Montreal and Quebec. With the Museum’s headquarters in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles undergoing a major architectural transformation, the MAC has temporarily relocated its activities to Place Ville Marie, another iconic landmark in the city. There, the museum connects with the public through temporary exhibitions highlighting exceptional artists and presenting a variety of practices. The MAC at Place Ville Marie also offers a wide range of educational services, creative workshops, and community outreach activities.
