Montreal, December 14, 2011 — At the first Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) arts gala held last night, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal won the award for best exhibition in the Museums category for its exhibit Anri Sala, produced under the curatorial direction of Chief Curator Marie Fraser.
The Anri Sala exhibit was the artist’s first solo exhibition in Canada and his largest ever in North America. The exhibition ran from February 3 to April 25, 2011, providing a unique opportunity to discover the exceptional work of this Albanian artist, who is one of the last generation of artists to have grown up under the communist regime in Albania. The exhibit showcased a dozen of the artist’s most significant recent works and included videos, photographs, a sculpture and even a work designed specifically for the Musée.
The Musée would also like to congratulate Marie-Ève Beaupré, recipient of the young curator of the year award, notably for her exhibit Bleu presented here in 2010, as well as the artists Alexandre David and Olivia Boudreau, featured in The Québec Triennial 2011, who won the award for best regional exhibition, Expression, and the Prix Pierre-Ayot, respectively.
