Artwork description
André Fournelle’s incredibly diverse practice demonstrates the artist’s commitment to experimentation with new forms and methods. Some of his early sculptures play with positive and negative space from highly textured surfaces. In 1967, Fournelle abandoned the rough-hewn aesthetic of his previous metal pieces and began working with polished and painted steel, or chrome steel. With its clean lines and uniformly applied colour, Pivot achieves a formal purity which the artist would further elaborate on with modern materials such as neon and plastic.
